HELP US MAKE AN PARISH ALTAR AND TABERNACLE IN RUSSIA

Dear friend!

We are writing this letter to ask for your personal help. As you know in the parish of St. John the Baptist in Tsarskoe Selo (St. Petersburg of Russia) we work for several years. With the help of the nuns and faithful we are trying to return it the look that Church had in the first century of its history, from 1811 to 1917.

The Communist revolution of 1917 had an awful influence to Catholicism in Russia, which was prosperous until such time. Everything was destroyed except one church in Moscow and one in St. Petersburg. They were constantly watched by KGB. Our parish was finally closed in 1938 and converted into a sports club for cycling. Decorating the walls precious frescoes were painted over with green paint, the altar was destroyed, crosses and statues that adorned the temple were destroyed or scattered in offices and museums.

In the eighties the church has been transformed into a concert hall.

For eight years we have primarily sought to build a parish community. With the help of volunteers we have made a lot of minor repairs, which have turned the concert hall into a place of worship to the Lord. Now it seems the time has come when the church really should start to look like a church. To achieve this we have to remove the stage that was built for the concert hall and in its place put the altar, pulpit, chandeliers (no kitchen ones), some pictures and especially the Tabernacle, we want to make one which our Lord deserves. We would like people could enjoy that beauty after so many years of suffering and unjust expropriation.

That is why at this time we write personally, asking for financial assistance. We know that the world is in deep crisis, but we rely on your generosity and love for the Lord and the Catholic mission. Only the Church and faithful Catholics in other parts of the world can help us, we are waiting for your support. Russian Catholics need your help to restore the temple and make it worthy as yours.

May God bless your generous contribution.

Fr. Alexander, Fr. Francisco and Fr. Juan Manuel.
